The modern view of value stream management is a lean-oriented set of practices and techniques applied to people, processes, and technology to improve and accelerate value delivery through software. That statement is true. But before VSM became a thing in the software industry, the concepts were applied widely across disparate industries and business domains with similar goals and objectives. Product owners and software development teams should not be quick to dismiss this fact.
From a system thinking perspective, our VSM-improved software flows should no longer constrain the organization’s value delivery capabilities. But our other value streams might.
